 The Ultimate Guide

A clean and tidy block-paved driveway seriously boosts your home's kerb appeal and overall value. In Sutton Coldfield and the wider Birmingham area, however, our local weather and environmental conditions mean block paving can quickly become grubby, mossy, and slippery. In this post, we'll explain how professional pressure washing can transform your driveway, and exactly what you can expect from Balo Jetwash services.

Why Bother Cleaning Your Driveway?

Your driveway is often the first impression visitors get of your home. Dirty, moss-covered blocks don't just look naff; they're a slipping hazard, especially in our typically wet Brummie weather. Neglecting regular maintenance can also lead to costly repairs down the line.

This Roof in Sutton Coldfield gets a new look!

When it comes to keeping your roof clean and protecting your home from long-term damage, homeowners are often faced with a common dilemma: Should you choose roof pressure washing or roof scraping?

At BALOJETWASH, we specialise in professional roof pressure washing, and in this article, we’ll walk you through the key differences between the two methods, so you can make the best choice for your property.

🧼 What Is Roof Pressure Washing?

Roof pressure washing is a professional cleaning method that uses high-pressure water jets to remove moss, algae, lichen, dirt, and other build-ups from your roof. It’s a fast, powerful, and highly effective way to give your roof a second life.

We use industrial-grade pressure washers combined with specialist roof-safe cleaning detergents (fully licensed and eco-compliant), designed to deep-clean the surface while protecting your tiles and prolonging the life of your roof.

Brick Wall Cleaning in Sutton Coldfield – A Stunning Transformation by Balo Jetwash

Before Cleaning

At Balo Jetwash, we take pride in delivering high-quality exterior cleaning services in Sutton Coldfield and the surrounding areas. Recently, a lovely customer reached out, asking for a professional cleaning of their brick wall fence. Over time, exposure to the elements had left the bricks in poor condition, with a heavy build-up of moss, dirt, and general grime. The customer was concerned that the wall’s appearance had deteriorated, making the property look less appealing.

Understanding the Challenge

Brick surfaces, especially those exposed to the outdoors, accumulate dirt and organic growth over the years. Moss, algae, and pollutants can cling to the brickwork, leading to staining, discolouration, and even damage if left untreated. In this particular case, the customer's main concern was not only to restore the look of the wall but also to preserve its structural integrity.

Bricks can be delicate, and using excessive pressure during cleaning can damage the surface, loosen mortar joints, or even cause cracks. That’s why, at Balo Jetwash, we always tailor our approach to ensure the best results without compromising the brickwork.

Our Gentle Yet Effective Cleaning Approach

To meet the customer’s request, we implemented a careful and strategic cleaning process:

  1. Pre-Treatment with a Specialised Cleaning Solution
Before pressure washing, we applied a professional-grade cleaning detergent designed to break down dirt, moss, and algae without damaging the bricks. This helps to loosen contaminants, making them easier to remove.

A Lovely Elderly Couple’s Driveway is Gleaming Again

Before Pressure Washing

A kind client of mine recommended their neighbour, who reached out to me wanting their driveway cleaned. According to the homeowner, they also had a pressure washer, but it was clear that their machine wasn’t powerful enough to achieve a proper clean.

Once we agreed on the price and the date for the work, I turned up as arranged and got the job done. As you can see from the photos, the surface was quite discoloured, with dirt and grime settled deep within the gaps of the block paving. The job was made trickier by the fact that the entrance area had a large overhang, making it harder to clean.

Fortunately, within less than an hour of my arrival, I had the driveway looking spotless. Using a high-pressure washer, I removed the algae, moss, and various stains that had built up over time. To ensure long-lasting cleanliness, I then treated the surface with an industrial-grade cleaning detergent, which helps maintain the driveway in perfect condition for longer.

Pressure Washing A to Z – Everything You Need to Know

Dirty block paving Patio Before Cleaning

When talking to customers, I often hear the same concerns about pressure washing. Some people believe it will damage their surfaces, harm their plants, or waste too much water. Others think they can achieve the same results with a small pressure washer from a hardware store. There are many myths surrounding professional pressure washing, and in this blog post, I want to clear them up once and for all.

So, let’s go through them one by one.

1. "Pressure washing will damage my surface."

Every surface is different, and that’s exactly why expertise and the right equipment are so important. A block-paved driveway, where weeds, moss, and grime have settled between the joints, requires a completely different cleaning approach than a resin-coated surface. But that doesn’t mean either is impossible to clean. It’s simply a matter of using the right tools and techniques.

Since I do this for a living, I have everything needed to restore surfaces without causing damage. I’ve worked with all types of materials, and there isn’t a surface I haven’t cleaned before.

2. "Pressure washing will harm my plants."

This is a common concern, but the reality is that in most cases, there is no noticeable damage to plants. In very rare instances, the edges of grass or shrubs might get slightly affected, but even if that happens, they bounce back within a week.
